The Beacon (Working Title)
Game Overview
Genre: Puzzle & Platformer
Perspective: First Person
Theme: Sci-Fi
Overview: There is a beacon in the middle of the world that you must get to by going to areas around it and turning on the power overload by activating the power sources which once done will allow the player to get to the middle where the final puzzle will be which will deactivate the beacon.
The main mechanic of the game is electricity-based power. In each area, there will be new upgrades which are all linked to the electricity in some way. You start off with no power-ups and have to beat the first area which is when you will get your first upgrade.
Inspirations and Influences
I was most inspired by Portal as it is one of my favourite puzzle games and I wanted to create something with a similar style and gameplay.
Each of these games also has a simplistic design to them which is why I chose these as my inspirations.
Target Market and Audience
The target audience for this game will be 7+ as the game might be challenging for children under that age and also because some of the puzzles that will be made might be too hard for children that young as well.
Game Story
You are a VR Tester and you have been put in this game to test it until you notice a virus has taken over which is the massive beacon in the middle. This virus has locked you in the game and you must shut each power source down in order to delete the virus.
Gameplay / Mechanics
Main Mechanic: Electricity power up.
Electricity Upgrades:
- The other hand gets a different colour of electricity. Used to hit other specific colour panels.
- Use electricity as a jetpack/hoverpack.
- If you use both at the same time it turns into a magnet. (Stick to magnetic walls).
Other Mechanics
•Pick Up & Rotate Objects
•Colour Code Combinations.
•Mirror Puzzles.
Sound and Effects
There will be a variety of sound effects for this game as there will be a lot of different puzzles that you will be playing through.
Overall Final Output / Results Expectations
With this project, I am hoping to create all the mechanics that I have labelled and make the game function properly from start to end.
Future Expansions
- New puzzles and mechanics.
- Potentially make it in VR.
- Add a speedrun mode.
