Supermarket Royale – Dev Blog Post 1

This is the first development post of a new game I’ve been working on alongside my friend Oliver. I am the Lead Programmer as well as a 3D Artist & Sound Designer in this project. I have created all of the scripts and mechanics, a lot of the items in the shop I created and textured such as the conveyor belt, all of the textures for the boxes and bottles on the shelves and the shopping trolley model and textures. So far we have created a few levels and mechanics which I thought would be a good time to share now.

Here is a short clip of the first level to demonstrate the mechanics:

The player is the can that is rolling and has to avoid the obstacles such as the bottles, beer and other objects. Once the items spawn, they get scratched off the list. Once an item goes past the till, the item name appears on the screen. There is a camera change button which moves the camera to a different position to see the level from a different angle.

Other levels have different themes and mechanics in them so these first few levels will be shop based however later on in the game, there will be more levels such as dumps, factories, sawmills and some others which will be kept secret for now. These levels will also have their own different and unique mechanics in them which will keep the gameplay from becoming boring and repetitive.
